5 Tips for Keeping Pests Out of Clothing
It can be very disappointing to find your favorite shirt covered in holes caused by pests. If you don’t take precautions to protect your clothes from pests and insects, they can cause serious damage.
These five tips can be used to repel the most common clothing-destroying pests and keep your clothes intact.
1. Before storing seasonal clothing, wash them.
You can make clothes more appealing to insects by storing them before you wash them. You should wash your clothes without starch or fabric softener, as these products can attract more insects.
2. Choose rigid plastic storage containers instead of cardboard.
The protection of cardboard against harmful pests such as rodents and Silverfish is very limited. Since cardboard is made from paper, it contains cellulose which is a food source to silverfish. After they have finished chewing through the cardboard, they will happily go on to the clothing inside. While cardboard is not on the menu of rats or mice, they can still chew through it with their sharp teeth.
