Keeping your house clean and pest-free is something you can easily accomplish as long as you know the signs of pest infestation. Although no one wants to think about pests invading their home, it helps that almost all household pests leave telltale signs that they’re there. If you notice any of the following signs of pest infestation, contact your local pest control professional immediately.
1. Open Food Packaging
Pests can gnaw or chew through most kinds of food packaging, including plastic and cardboard. If you open your pantry door to find that food packaging has mysteriously developed holes in it, it’s a sure sign that pests have gotten into the pantry. Once the pest knows that food is abundant in your pantry, they will continue to return until you get rid of them. Once you do, keep your pantry food items stored in sealed glass containers, where pests can’t reach them.
2. Black Specs on Counters and Shelves
Many pests are quite small, and they leave even smaller droppings. If you routinely find tiny black specs on your kitchen counters and shelves, this is a strong indicator that you have pests in the home.
3. Droppings
Larger pests, like rodents, will leave easily visible droppings on the inside of cupboards, and along the wall line of your home. If you spot anything like this, chances are you have a pest nesting in the walls of your home.
4. Nesting Materials
Pests make nests just like we do. They use old bits of newspaper, balled up fur from your pet, clumps of human hair that may be lying on the bathroom floor, extra bits of insulation, shredded newspaper, and more. If you find a collection of these items anywhere in your home, odds are that you’ve stumbled upon a nest of some kind.
